If digi cams use way larger CCD than camcorders, how come camcorders are usually more expensive?

the basis for photography has not changed in the last 100 years, nor have the laws of physics been revoked. the primary factor affecting price and your first consideration when buying is the quality of the lens. this is true for film, digital or video. the CCD is manufactured in mass quantities so it has a low unit price. there was a time when the process was not so good, and better models had hand selected imagers, this was especially true in the tube era, but even then, the pickup device was a small fraction of the camera cost.
